I use a carbide two flute quarter inch diameter end mill. Would a wax toilet seal work or is that to soft of wax? Have used a wax ring for alot of things but never tried it for grinding. I've not shopped for it, but is it just on the shelves WalMart? If you needed to find this bees wax today, where would you go for this? Helps with the dust and flying grinder debri also You will have to keep applying the wax on your working tool as needed. If using a cutting wheel or grinding disk on aluminum, do the same. If using a carbide bit, stick it in the wax and give it a wirl and get it coated. I keep a chunk in my tool box for exactly what you are asking about. ![]() Posted 23:32 (#552011 - in reply to #551946) Subject: RE: "Machining" aluminum with a die grinder - Which bit do I need The grease also helps keep the chips from flying all over the place. Trust me, it works! It makes it a little messy. When the carbide burr plugs up dip the end of the bit in the grease and as soon as you start grinding again it will clean the aluminum right out of the burr. I have done a ton of head porting for race cars and you sure learn about that lesson! You just need to keep a can of axle grease next to the project your working on. I have used a router bit too, I don't recommend it but it works. Should I turn it high or low RPM? Heavy or light pressure? I've tried a couple different styles of "machine" bits and also tried a grinding stone and neither is working very well. I'm trying to grind away some aluminum with a die grinder and after running a minute or two the bit loads up with aluminum and it quits cutting.
